Methods
- Retrospective analysis for 2018 for the “Arthritis and Total Joint Specialists” (ATJS) a group of four dedicated, fellowship trained Joint Surgeons.
- Our desire was to demonstrate a best-case standard of excellence,
showing what could optimally be obtained with a high level of Surgical expertise, Surgeon and Anesthesiologist partnership and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, comprehensive patient preparation and a strict Multi-Modal Analgesia Protocol (MMAP) with the goal of Opiate Free Analgesia (OFA).
Key Takeaways
We have achieved routine SDD with 98.2 % of patients being successfully discharged Same Day by addressing what we found were the three most common
areas of discharge delay, Surgeon-Anesthesia-Patient.
- This ATJS group has restricted themselves to joint replacements and represent
excellent surgical technique. - Strict Multi-Modal Analgesia, Opiate Free and regional anesthesia protocols are
followed rigorously. - For the patient and caregiver, consistent messaging, preparation and education
are essential. Patients and caregiver are required to attend specific and
comprehensive Joint Education Classes where SDD and pain expectations
are reinforced.
